Brief History

CIWEST Foundation, Inc. was established and registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) last July 18, 2000 . With the inspiration and encouragement of one of its founders and presently acting as the Founding Chairman, Mr. Takashi Miyamoto, it was formed to provide an alternative organization in the maintenance of a good Philippine-Japan relation.

Before CIWEST Foundation, Inc. has been established, the International Welfare Association (IWA) was promoting welfare in several parts of the Philippines. Since then, the President of IWA, Mr. Takashi Miyamoto, who is the Founding Chairman of CIWEST, also aspired to promote science, economy, and industry as well aside from activities to eradicate poverty and to enhance the welfare for both countries (Philippines and Japan)

It was also formed to provide opportunities for the less privileged members of the society in the field of technical training and technology transfer with the end view of creating more Filipino entrepreneurs. Since the technical internship program was inaugurated whereby Filipino skilled workers can further improve their craft by training in various companies in Japan and eventually learn and adapt to a more advanced technology available in Japan. In this way, after their training and technical internship, they would be able to capitalize on their acquired training by putting their own business or apply the technology to their own sending company. CIWEST believes that with the present condition of the Philippine economy and the Globalization of trade and industry, little will be left for the Philippines to compete since there are very few Philippine made materials for export and compete globally.

CIWEST hopes to fill in the gap in bringing back the trust and confidence of the Japanese government and its people. We hope to provide the Japanese companies the necessary assistance in their effort to apply the true meaning of Technical Training from selection to giving preparatory Japanese language training. It is very important for CIWEST to educate the trainees, their families and present the good intention of the program by applying what is good and what is best for both countries.

Organization

CIWEST was organized in the Philippines and was inaugurated last August 5, 2000 at Club Filipino, Greenhills, San Juan with no less than the two (2) Honorable Congressmen from Japan - Congressman Kobayashi and Congressman Kojima, as the Honored Guests with some Filipino Congressmen.

Presently, CIWEST is training qualified and dedicated personnel who will handle the various activities and programs of the Foundation. Included in the training are the cultural and technical briefings to better understand the Japanese way of doing things. It is the hope of CIWEST to give importance to the character of these individuals in order to achieve its goal correctly and in the right direction.
